SUMMARY: Countering major threats to U.S. corn crop

Each year, U.S. farmers grow more than 80 million acres of field corn and 600,000 acres of sweet corn, together valued at $66 billion. Sustaining corn productivity into the future is becoming more challenging, with climate change, evolving pest resistance problems and the need to maintain environmental quality. Land-grant universities are providing the nation’s corn growers with new management tools for profitable, environmentally friendly corn production that ultimately helps keep prices low for consumers.
