STORY: Beating the entrepreneurial odds

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, only half of all new businesses survive to see their fifth year of operation, and two-thirds of those fail by 10 years.

In 2015, Alabama A&M Cooperative Extension’s Virtual Entrepreneurial Center provided free entrepreneurship certification training to 73 individuals. Similar training from other Alabama institutions cost approximately $35. Seven program graduates went on to receive a $500 micro-grant to start and expand their businesses, making the program a great value.

Business certification and other entrepreneurial training can help business owners’ beat the odds and successfully compete in today’s global market.
