STORY: Blonde is the new black

Black Angus are America’s most popular beef cattle breed, but southern ranchers face challenges in raising them. In states like Florida, heat absorption from the animals’ dark coat makes the cattle susceptible to heat stress. Researchers, through cross-breeding, developed a breed that combines the fast growth and high fertility of the Black Angus with a lighter color coat. The Ona White Angus stays cooler in warmer weather and could be a logical choice for tropical and subtropical climates or other regions that may be impacted by climate change.
